Job Description

SKILLMART International College is an accredited private higher education institution. The college is part of the SkillMart Educational Development Share Company. The Share Company is the first education-based share company established with the aim of providing high quality education from kindergarten to tertiary education. It was organized by professors from Addis Ababa University and other educational institutions' lecturers who are experts in the field. We believe that our organization will do an exemplary job in the education sector at all levels. Currently, the company has obtained accreditation to offer master’s programs (MSc in Project Management, Analysis and Evaluation, and MSc in Accounting and Finance) at its Addis Ababa Campus. Furthermore, our Bahirdar Campus is accredited to offer Master's programs (MSc in Project Management, Analysis and Evaluation, and MBA) as well as degree programs (BA in Accounting and Finance, and Marketing Management). The company would like to recruit one legal officer that will safeguard and protect the interests of the company.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conducting legal analysis and researching legal matters.
  • Providing advice on legal matters.
  • Drafting legal opinions, memoranda, and briefing documents.
  • Reviewing legal material.
  • Formulating formalities regarding settlements of disputes.
  • Monitoring the implementation of the legal clauses.
  • Represent the company in courts, judicial and semi-judicial tribunals, commissions, police authorities, government bodies and arbitration proceedings on cases brought by or against the Company
  • Compiles evidences and follow-up court proceedings
  • Comply with all policy and procedure manuals in handling any type of cases
  • Ascertain that all agreements, contracts, undertakings and deals made by the Company safeguard and protect the interests of the Company
  • Review and advise management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures
  • Review and draft contracts, agreements and insurance policies in light of legal perspectives and ensure that they are in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements
  • Provide legal opinions as may be required by all work units within the Company (HR, student cases etc)
  • Implementing anti-corruption act in the institution
  • Keep abreast with all legislations issued by the government as well as directives issued by supervisory authorities and advise all units within the company about such new developments which may affect the company
  • Provide and interpret legal information, conduct training and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to staff
  • Review the performance and activities of retention advocates
  • Follow up Third Party Recovery and collection through amicable means
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports
  • Perform similar duties as may be assigned by the supervisor;

Job Requirements
Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law with 0 years (above) of experience
  • Knowledge of civil and commercial law skills
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well within a team and individually.
  • Demonstrated writing capacity in English
